Get ready for another steamy summer fling fromthe NYT bestselling author and online sensation, Abbi Glines. Cage is back and he's hotter than ever...After waiting for his big break, bad boy Cage York is finally called up to prove his worth in the baseball college arena. But when Cage's girlfriend, Eva, mourns the sudden loss of her father, it's not Cage's comforting arms she runs to, but those of her former fiancé's twin brother, Jeremy.Torn between his baseball dream and the girl of his dreams, Cage must prove he's worthy of Eva's love, or he'll lose her to Jeremy forever.
Sometimes it Lasts is a continuation of Cage and Eva’s story which began in While it Lasts. It’s not essential to read the other book before this one but I think it would help. Going into this book blindly meant that I didn’t know about previous relationships or certain elements in characters pasts which might have made events in this book a little more powerful.
I liked Cage and Eva’s relationship in Sometimes it Lasts. They have been though a lot already and things are starting to look up. Cage gets a scholarship to college to play baseball. The only downside is that it’s in Tennessee and leaving Eva behind just isn’t an option. Eva is on board with the move – that is until she gets the news that her father is sick. Not wanting Cage to give up all he’s worked so hard for, Eva manages to get him to still go to Tennessee on the condition that she will join him as soon as she can. Long distance relationships are hard and Eva and Cage have to face problems unlike any they’ve dealt with before. Is their love strong enough to survive?
One of the things I love most about Abbi Glines novels but something which drives me a little crazy is how passionate and impulsive her characters are. It’s amazing how deeply and intensely they love. Cage and Eva are devoted to each other and want nothing more than the other to be happy. But as quick as they are to love – they are also quick to believe the worst. They could never be accused of being all that rational when it comes to the other.
But it works in this book. Eva and Cage both have to come to terms with their situation and find a way to make everything work or having to face a future without the other one in it. I can see why Cage has a legion of fangirls. He’s fairly irresistible especially in the latter part of this book. I did find him to be a little two-dimensional at times. He is very single-minded in his pursuit of Eva. And not just wanting to be with her but how rude he is to any woman who isn’t her or a girlfriend of one of his mates. He may have ended up being justified but I don’t like the idea that to be in a relationship meant he couldn’t be cordial to other women.
Sometimes it Lasts is everything I’ve come to expect from an Abbi Glines novel. It’s got characters who belong together but need to fight to get their happy ending, some very hot and sexual scenes as well as a cast of supporting characters who bring out the best (and worst) in the leads. This was an entertaining and sweet book and now I’m dying to read While it Lasts to see how it all began for Cage and Eva!
