Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.
Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.
The topic for this week is: Top Ten Books With “X” Setting
And considering how much I love books set in Boarding Schools then it seems like a great idea that I compile a list of ten of my favourite books/series set in boarding schools.
Harry Potter by JK Rowling – As they grew up, so did I. And I admit it – I was jealous of their lack of adult supervision. But it’s probably a good thing that I wasn’t at Hogwarts!
Vampire Academy AND Bloodlines by Richelle Mead – It’s probably cheating counting both these series, but I love them both. They are both set at private Vampire boarding schools and feature some brilliant characters.
Mythos Academy by Jennifer Estep – Super awesome descendants of mythological warriors fighting evil and having one amazing gourmet cafeteria!
The Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter – If I couldn’t be magical or undead,,, I’d want to be a spy.
My Ex From Hell by Tellulah Darling – Trying to keep in school whilst battling evil gods…. sounds like a blast 😛
The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay – This book is fairly dear to my heart. It was one of the first “adult” (and by that I mean, not a children’s book but rather one meant for older readers) books I ever read. And it sort of destroyed me. I love this book and it’s one that I think everyone should read.
The St Clare series by Enid Blyton – Pat and Isabel were two of my constant companions growing up. This is one of the first books that I remember staying up late – with a torch – and reading and rereading.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – Fun school for American teens in Paris. Who could want anything more?
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett – Cause it’s a lovely story.
Most of these are paranormal in natures but I threw in a few oldies but goodies too. I would love to hear what books you’ve read set in boarding schools that you loved. And please – link me to your top ten, I can’t wait to see what settings other people picked for this week’s TTT!
Ah, this is such a good setting! I also love books set in boarding school, I think they are super fun to read. There’s no nagging parents, and there are heaps of rules to break 😀
VA, Bloodlines, and A&TFK are all awesome books. I feel the need to read them again after this post!
And there are some books on this list that I desperately need to read; like The Power of One, and The Little Princess!
My Top Ten post 🙂
Such a great list! I also really like books set in boarding school. I used to LOVE the St Clare books and Mallory Towers as well. Ah…. memories! 😀
I never read Mallory Towers… maybe I should track down a copy!
I don’t recognize any of these titles, but of course Harry Potter made it on my list as well!
I only read HP and VA from your list but I adore both series, both are among my all-time favorites.
My TTT
If you enjoyed VA then I think you’d like Bloodlines. It’s a VA spinoff featuring Sydney the Alchemist and a bunch of other VA characters. I also think you’d enjoy the Mythos Academy series 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
Yay for St Clare’s – Jolly good show chaps!
I love books set in boarding schools. I love both Vampire Academy and Bloodlines. Have you read the Covenant series? It’s set in a boarding school and I love it. And Anna and the French Kiss is one of my favorite contemporary YAs. I haven’t read the Mythos Academy series, but I need to add it to my TBR list. And A Little Princess–one of my absolute favorite books from my childhood! Great list!
Pam A Little Princess is one of my favourite childhood reads as well, I bought a copy about a year ago, really should re-read it again. Need to also read Anna and the French Kiss I got that almost a year ago as well and still haven’t read it 🙁
I didn’t realize the Covenant series was set in a boarding school! It’s just moved higher on my to-read list! Thanks Pam!
This was almost my setting of choice for today too (I altered it slightly to reflect a college setting instead), since it would’ve been easy for me. VA, HP, Mythos – all awesome series. Have you read The Covenant Series by Jennifer Armentrout? If not, you should!
TTT @ Krista’s Dust Jacket
I didn’t know it was set in a boarding school. You’ve just made The Covenant shoot to the top of my to-read list! Thanks Krista!
I don’t know what made me think A Little Princess wasn’t set in a boarding school LOL I’m glad you mentioned Enid Blyton’s St Clair Series 😀 My Ex From Hell, that book I wanted to read from the moment I saw the title and the book cover, did you love it?
My TTT
Angelica @ Paperback Princess
How awesome are the Twins from St Clare? 😀 I’m so glad I found a fellow fan!
I did like My Ex from Hell. It’s another mythological retelling with Persephane… which I’m sort of tied of after having read a few but it’s pretty entertaining.
If you like boarding school settings and fantasy, you should read A Great and Terrible Beauty. So amazing!
I have heard of that series! It’s by Libba Bray, right? I shall check it out! Thanks
I am going to have to check out Mythos Academy. 🙂
Happy Reading!
Stephanie
My TTT
I definitely recommend it! Thanks for visiting!
I totally forgot about the St. Clares books. I loved that series! I really want to read the Mythos Academy books as well, I’ve heard great things about it. Great picks!
I love Mythos. It’s not as heavy as a lot of YA series – well… as non serious as a book where you have people fighting against evil where people die can be… 😛
Oh, A Little Princess is a great addition to this list! I haven’t read that in ages.
My TTT.
It’s never a bad time for a reread of The Little Princess! Thanks for visiting Jillyn.
I’m on the Ex from Hell Blog Tour and can’t wait to read that one! I have two other recommendations for you that are boarding school settings: The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson and Breathless by Jessica Warman.

Awesome. I’m taking part in the tour too and am fairly excited to read the second book! I’ve not heard of either of those books – thank so much for the recommendations!
YW! I hope you enjoy 🙂
I LOVE boarding school settings. A couple I enjoyed are ‘On The Jellicoe Road’ by Melina Marchetta, ‘ill tell you mine’ by Pip Harry and ‘Looking For Alaska’ by John Green.great list!
Oh! I didn’t know Jellicoe Road was set in a boarding school. Thanks for the recommendations! Added all three to the to-read list.
Not only is it set in a boarding school, but it has a Jonah Griggs, winning all round. It can be a bit challenging to get into the story at first, but stick with it, pure brilliance.

Okay. It’s decided. I’m definitely going to read this one this weekend! Thanks Annette
Oooh, we have almost the same setting! Anna and the French Kiss is one of my favorite YA books ever! 🙂
