Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.
Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of their bloggers over at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.
This week’s topic is: Top Ten Words/Topics That Will Make Me Pick Up or Buy a Book
There are so many tropes and settings that I ADORE! And they go to the top of my to-read list when I “discover” them.
The top ten are….
Boarding Schools – Vampire Academy, Bloodlines, Harry Potter, Mythos Academy… this list could go on forever. If it’s set in a boarding school – I’m there.
Europe – I would love to move to Europe. But since that’s not exactly possible I love to read books set there. The culture, history, food, fashion – there’s just something magical about this setting.
Australia – Whether the author is an Aussie or it’s set here, those are books I love to read. Thankfully there are a lot of great authors from here!
Epistolary Fiction – Books made up of letters, emails and diary entries are a guilty pleasure. I love them. They are the books that as soon as I buy I’ll read as soon as I can get my hands on them.
Cruise Ships – Ever since I read the Babysitter’s Club Super Special #1 back in the nineties, I have loved the idea of going on a cruise. I’ve never been on one but I love the romantic notion that cruises bring to mind.
Sale: – It’s true. This girl LOVES a bargain.
Box Set – I have a weakness for boxed sets. They just look so pretty and finished and if I see one I must have it. It’s why I’m trying to save up so I can get the gorgeous hard cover (I love hard covers too!) set of John Green books. So pretty…
Valkyries – Some people are mesmerized by vampires, others by werewolves. But for me? It’s Valkyries. There is just something about the Norse mythological creatures that I can’t get enough of.
Soul Mates – I love the idea of each person having a perfect match. The soul mateness overcomes everything else for me. Even my pet hates. At the moment I’m reading a book about a woman who meets a man who she falls completely and irrevocably in love with a man… despite already being in a long-term committed relationship (it’s called Into My Arms by Kylie Ladd just in case anyone’s interested. I’m really enjoying it). I can’t stand cheating in books I read but soul mates? That trumps everything.
Hybrid – I LOVE hybrid creatures. It’s like.. I don’t even know how to describe it. Something that shouldn’t exist but does and is somehow the best and worst of both worlds. Like half-vampire/half-werewolves. Or something equally as bizarre. LOVE LOVE LOVE them.
So there is my list for the week! Share with me your lists and comment. They are always appreciated. Hope everyone had as much fun creating their TTT’s as I did.
This is a really amazing list. Valkyries? Um, yes!!! Can you give me some names? Have been meaning to read Valkyrie Rising that’s the only one I know of. I like how you set them against vampires too!
And soul mates! and hybrids! (have you read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by chance, it combines those too perfectly)
Epistolary fiction! Made me think of Dracula right away. Got any more recommendations?
I haven’t read nearly enough valkyrie novels. There are some in Kresley Cole’s Immortals after Dark series (which is fairly steamy paranormal romance) but they are the only ones that come to mind. They’re just a supernatural creature that I’d LOVE to read more of. If you have any recommendations I’d be happy to see them 🙂
I adored Daughter of Smoke and Bone. IT was one of my favourite reads of last year. I can’t wait for the third in the series to be released next year. It was so beautifully written and I loved all the supernatural creatures and relationships between the characters.
Dracula is one of my favourite epistolary novels! Young adult ones I would suggest Perks of Being a Wallflower (Stephen Chbosky), The Princess Diaries (Meg Cabot) and Feeling Sorry for Celia (Jaclyn Moriarty).
Most of the more adult epistolary novels I like are chick lit – things like Bridget Jones Diary (Helen Fielding) and Boy Meets Girl (Meg Cabot). Attachments by Rainbow Rowell was also a fairly interesting one being not exclusively letters and emails but also having the narrative of a guy who was reading workmates emails Love Rosie (Cecilia Ahern) is a sweet novel about two friends and comprises of the letters they wrote each other from first meeting at six years old up until their fifties.
And the Historian (Elizabeth Kostova) is one I haven’t read but I’ve heard fantastic things about it.
I think I may have rambled a little. Thanks for visiting!
boarding school aaah i forgot that one … good list check out mine

I have to admit I’m surprised by how many lists I’ve seen boarding schools on. But I suppose there’s a reason why so many authors write stories set in them for me to read and adore! Thanks for visiting.
Boarding schools is my number 1, too. And the Baby-sitter’s Club special. OMG. I can’t even tell you how much I loved that series. That brings back so many memories and now I want to go on a cruise. Great list!
Here’s my TTT
Another BSC fan? 😀 I was a pretty big fan for a LONG time. But then for some reason stopped… I didn’t even know that they got a new member!
LOL… “sale” … every list I read I think “Ugh, I forgot that” or “Ugh, I didn’t think about that”. The problem I’m finding with this particular list is that there are too many things that entice me to read a book. 10 is simply not enough! Here’s my Top Ten
There’s a reason I often cheat and put 11… or 15 (that’s almost like ten…. right?!)
Thanks for visiting. This week was such a fun list to compile.
I’d love to read more books set in and/or from Europe and Australia! 🙂 My TTT list: http://aliceinreaderland.com/2013/04/29/topicsword/

Me too! If you have any suggestions or recommendations for me I’d love to hear them 🙂
Thanks for stopping by
I’ve seen boxed sets on several lists today. It totally makes me laugh because I LOVE me a boxed set. I don’t buy lots of them since they’re usually expensive, but I do love the completeness of them!
They are expensive and that’s why I don’t have a lot of them. But the ones I do have? I think I managed to do some crazy justifications to myself to make me feel like it was a good purchase. A few weeks ago I bought 4 Shopaholic books in a boxed set. the internal conversation I had with myself was slightly ridiculous but when they were only $9 for the four books.. I still feel right. And I have a pretty box 😛
Thanks for visiting!
Intriguing list! I am a fond of sales too–perfect time to add to my already overflowing bookcases. 😉 Happy Reading!
Maybe that’s just an excuse to buy new bookcases? 😀 Thanks for visiting.
Epistolary fiction… Yeah, that might’ve made my list, too (I keep finding things on other people’s lists that I wish I had put on my own)!
That happens to me every week! And a lot of the time on reflection other people’s lists seem to fit me better than my own did 😛
